To pass the driver’s test.?
Obtaining a driving licence, whatever its category , is done through an approved driving school in Luxembourg.
The procedures and conditions for obtaining the permit, in particular the minimum age required (between 16 and 21 years old) may vary from one category to another.
To obtain the driving license, the candidate must follow a theoretical apprenticeship and a practical .The duration of the apprenticeships varies according to the candidate’s aptitudes and his possible possession of a license of another category.
Persons concerned
The practical driving license test is open to anyone residing in Luxembourg and of the minimum age
B : self-propelled vehicle carrying no more than 9 people and with a maximum authorized mass of 3.5 tonnes;
C1 : self-propelled vehicle with a maximum authorized mass of between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes carrying no more than 9 people;
C1E : combination of vehicles comprising a category C1 or B towing vehicle and a trailer or semi-trailer whose maximum authorized mass exceeds 750 kg or 3.5 tonnes, without the maximum authorized mass of the combination n exceeds 12 tons;
20 years for permits in the category:
C : self-propelled vehicle with a maximum authorized mass of more than 3.5 tonnes carrying no more than 9 people;
CE : combination of vehicles comprising a category C towing vehicle and a trailer or semi-trailer whose maximum authorized mass exceeds 750 kg;
D1 : self-propelled vehicle carrying no more than 17 passengers and with a maximum length of 8 meters;
D1E : combination of vehicles comprising a category D1 retracting towing vehicle and a trailer whose maximum authorized mass exceeds 750 kg;
24 years for self-propelled vehicles designed to transport more than 9 persons in categories D and DE .
Preconditions
The candidate must be able to drive a vehicle.
Thus, he must undergo a medical examination carried out by a general practitioner or an internist in Luxembourg. This doctor certifies, if this is the case, that the candidate has the physical and mental abilities required.
The driving license is not issued if the candidate:
in any form, likely to compromise his ability to drive safely ;
if the amount taken is such that it adversely affects driving. The same applies to any other medication or combination of medications which influences the ability to drive.
Depending on the information entered on the medical certificate submitted to the National Society of Automobile Traffic (SNCA), the latter may request the opinion of the medical commission on the fitness of a candidate to drive.
Preliminary steps
The candidate must choose an approved driving school in Luxembourg. He can change driving school at any time.
To make the change, the candidate must present himself with the apprenticeship certificate to another approved driving school of his choice.
The latter then forwards the request to the SNCA driving license service which:
save this change;
produces a new apprenticeship certificate in the name of the new driving school.
The change has no impact during the theoretical or practical exam.
The candidate assumes the costs of the driving school for his apprenticeship, as well as the tax stamp costs of 30 euros .
Practical arrangements
SUBMISSION OF THE REQUEST
The driving school completes the application for obtaining a driving license and sends it to the SNCA Driving License Service .
The applicant must sign the application . If he is a minor, it must be signed by a legal guardian/responsible.
For category A and B permits, the minimum age to start learning is 17.5 years old .
VOUCHERS
The candidate must submit the following documents:a recent identity photo (taken from the front) in 45 x 35mm format;the medical certificate of aptitude dating from less than 3 months;a tax stamp of 30 euros (issued by the driving school);is a minor: a copy of the identity document of his guardian / legal representative;is of legal age: a recent extract from criminal record No. 4;has resided in Luxembourg for less than 5 years: a criminal record from the last normal place of residence before that in Luxembourg;
THEORETICAL LEARNING
Theoretical learning relates in particular to the road traffic rules laid down in the Highway Code . A common core is taught for obtaining a first licence.
In the event of extension to another category, only instruction and tests centered on the specificities of this category are prescribed.
The candidate receives a certificate of learning which:
may be issued 6 months before the candidate has reached the minimum age required to drive vehicles corresponding to the category of driving license applied for.
The candidate must have this certificate in his possession throughout the theoretical and practical learning.
The number of compulsory theoretical lessons varies:
at least 12 one-hour lessons for categories A, A1, A2, AM, B and F;
at least 6 hours for license A, A2 or B if the candidate holds a driving license of another category.
THEORETICAL EXAM
The theoretical learning is sanctioned by a computerized examination.
